Police in Kaitaia are looking for two men who assaulted and robbed three French tourists.
The three French men - all in their late twenties - parked their campervan in a layby just south of Mangamuka Village on Thursday night.
They have told police they were woken in the early hours of Friday morning by a man knocking on the window and demanding money.
They met his demands, but he then broke into the van with a second robber, assaulted two of the men and took some items.
Police say the robbers were aged 20 to 30 and took off in an old dark red or brown car, possibly with a third man driving.
One tourist needed treatment for a facial injury. Police want to hear from anyone with information about the attack.
