A teenage American sailor has been rescued from her damaged yacht in the southern Indian Ocean.
Abby Sunderland has been picked up by a French fishing boat about 2000 nautical miles off the West Australian coast.
She set off distress beacons on Thursday after her yacht Wild Eyes lost a mast in heavy seas off Australia's west coast.
An international search and rescue operation was launched and the 16-year-old Californian was located by a Qantas charter plane on Friday.
Earlier, she had faced criticism - as did her parents - that she was unprepared for a solo voyage around the world.
