Two arrests after an attack in a residential care facility

Police in Taumarunui say the community's disgust at a home invasion that left a disabled man severely traumatised has helped them make arrests in the case.

Two men, aged 18 and 22, have been arrested over the attack 12 days ago, in which the 59-year-old victim was allegedly pinned down with a blanket and terrorised.

Detective Sergeant Rob Savage says early on Friday morning, police executed a search warrant at a Taumarunui address where they recovered what they believe is stolen property.

He says it was a cowardly home invasion against a man who has got disabilities and a mental health condition.

Detective Sergeant Savage says the community was outraged and provided police with a lot of information.

He says some of the information has led police to more stolen property and five other offenders who were completely unrelated to the Para Street offence.
