Queenstown mayor won't stand again

6:46 pm on 21 June 2010

Queenstown Mayor Clive Geddes will stand down at the local body elections in October.

Mr Geddes, who has been mayor of Queenstown Lakes District for three terms, says that after some deliberation he will not seek re-election.

Only one candidate, councillor Vanessa Van Uden, has confirmed she will stand.

Two other councillors, Lyal Cocks and John S Wilson, say they are considering standing.

Mr Geddes has been in the top job during a time of considerable growth in the region.
