Finlayson to amend declaration on interests

9:58 pm on 23 June 2010

Attorney-General Chris Finlayson will amend a declaration to Parliament on his financial interests.

After the Opposition raised questions about a company directorship he holds, Mr Finlayson sought advice from the Registrar of Pecuniary Interests on whether he should have declared that he acts as a corporate trustee for a friend's family trust, Te Puhi Trustee Two Ltd.

Because he does not stand to gain financially from the trustee company, he says, he did not declare the directorship.

Labour MP Trevor Mallard says that Parliament's standing orders on pecuniary interests are clear, and that Mr Finlayson appears to have signed a false statement every year since 2006, when the company was set up.
