$A35 million election pledge for diabetes research

2:25 pm on 4 July 2010

The Federal Opposition in Australia says it will spend $A35 million towards diabetes research if elected to government.

The investment will be used to fund a clinical trials network for people with type 1 diabetes.

Around 140,000 Australians have type 1 diabetes, while over 800,000 have both forms.

Opposition Leader Tony Abbott said the announcement was not a political ploy. He urged the government to match his offer.
