A trailbike rider who went missing north of Wellington on Sunday afternoon was found on Monday night.
Police say the 35-year-old was found safe and well at 6.15pm in an area of the Akatarawa Forest Park known as the Devil's Staircase.
The Lower Hutt man told police he was forced to stay put for the night after he flooded his bike's engine and couldn't restart it.
Earlier, a helicopter had joined search and rescue teams looking for the missing man, who left home for a bush ride just after midday on Sunday but did not return at 4.30pm as expected.
