Prominent Auckland lawyer Chris Comeskey has pleaded guilty to misleading the Court of Appeal and the Legal Services Agency.

Mr Comeskey has defended clients in high-profile cases such as the that of Nai Yin Xue, who was convicted of murdering his wife, and was also involved in brokering the return of stolen war medals.

He is appearing in the lawyers' disciplinary tribunal on charges of misleading the Court of Appeal and the Legal Services Agency and of breaching client care rules.

The charges relate to accusations that he gave the court misleading information during an appeal and that he overbilled a client.

A charge relating to statements he made to a newspaper criticising judges has been withdrawn.

He is due to be sentenced next week.
