Labour president seeks New Plymouth candidacy

11:14 am on 20 July 2010

Labour Party president Andrew Little is seeking selection for Labour in the New Plymouth electorate at the next election.

Previously regarded as a safe Labour seat, incumbent MP Harry Duynhoven lost it to National newcomer Jonathan Young in the 2008 election by 314 votes.

Mr Little, who is also the head of the Engineering, Printing & Manufacturing Union, submitted his nomination on Tuesday for the seat.

A candidate selection meeting will be held in September if there are other candidates. If not, Mr Little's nomination will be confirmed.
