Opus chief executive to retire

9:40 am on 31 July 2010

Opus International Consultants is losing its chief executive.

Kevin Thompson says he will retire at the end of September after nine years in the top job.

Chairman Kerry McDonald says Dr Thompson has made an outstanding contribution in expanding the business and its profitability, listing on the stock exchange and guiding the company through the global financial crisis.

Opus responded to the global downturn by cutting jobs, reducing work hours and wages and capital expenditure, which resulted in the company boosting its profit by 6% to $18.6 million in 2009.

Dr McDonald says the company will name a successor in the near future.

Opus International Consultants has grown from the former Ministry of Works in New Zealand.
