Taxi-bus survey in Warkworth

12:05 pm on 23 August 2010

Residents at Warkworth, north of Auckland, are being asked if they think a taxi-bus service would solve a lack of public transport in their area.

The survey of 7000 people is being conducted by Auckland Regional Transport Authority and Rodney District Council.

Hikurangi Foundation project manager Bevan Woodward says people would send a text message to order a taxi-bus, which would then provide a door-to-door service, picking up and dropping other passengers on the way.

If the survey results are favourable, Mr Woodward says a trial could start in the New Year, with prices that should be comparable to bus fares.
