Wellington-based Poutama Trust and the ASB Bank have formalised an agreement to help support and develop Maori businesses.

The Poutama Trust provides a range of services to iwi in both the North and South Islands.

Chief executive Richard Jones says the agreement with the bank symbolises a commitment from ASB to work with the Trust to create and promote Maori businesses.

He says the partnership strengthens the collective ability to directly support Maori businesses.

ASB Maori Banking Services Manager Anthony Ririnui says the bank will provide financial and banking advice, along with a variety of resources.

He says it's the first partnership the bank has been involved in with Maori but it has previously been working with Poutama Trust to help Maori agricultural businesses as well as iwi before and after their treaty settlements.
