No need for separate formula warning - kohanga trust

6:35 am on 7 August 2013

The Kohanga Reo National Trust says it is confident that parents and whanau know which baby milk formula to avoid feeding their pepe (babies).

Fonterra is working to trace goods that may contain contaminated whey protein, which can cause botulism.

Infant formula company Nutricia has recalled all batches of Karicare Stage 1 New Baby Infant Formula, and Karicare Gold Plus Stage 2 Follow On Formula.

Kohanga Reo National Trust co-chair Tina Olsen-Ratana said she was shocked when she heard the news because many whanau used formula for their babies.

But the trust did not believe it needed to issue a warning because the information had been well covered in the media, and Ms Olsen-Ratana felt parents and whanau were aware of which formulas to stay away from.
