A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the two organisations in Hamilton on Thursday afternoon.

Child, Youth and Family deputy chief executive Bernadine Mackenzie says pulling together their resources to keep children connected to whanau and iwi can only mean a better future for the children.

Waikato-Tainui's tribal executive chairman Rahui Papa says it is committed to being informed about who their most vulnerable tamariki are, and how the iwi can contribute to their wellbeing.

Social Development Minister Paula Bennett and Waikato-Tainui Te Kauhanganui Inc chief executive Parekawhia McLean also signed the memorandum.

The two organisations will develop a plan for local children and young people.
