A group of lifestyle block owners wants Tainui to redraw part of its plan for a major freight base in Hamilton.
The tribe's commercial arm is bidding to build a transport hub, industrial and commercial areas, and housing in Ruakura. The development could create over 700 jobs within the first five years of operation.
The Ruakura Residents' Group - which represents about 30 families - is not opposed to the plan. But spokesperson Bill Cowie says they want more space between their houses and the port, to reduce the amount of noise and movement around their homes.
Mr Cowie says their houses sit on peat, and will wobble like jelly with vibration from the freight base.
He says though Ruakura is not suitable for a transport hub, residents like the concept and acknowledge that Tainui has the right to do what it wants with its own land.
Mr Cowie expects to be able to present his submission on the plan to a board of inquiry in May.
Tainui rejected an earlier request by the residents for a buy-out of their properties.
