Trust's venture profits go into youth

A new project between Nga Uri o te Ngahere Trust and a Waikato researcher could lead to restored tribal lands and youth training schemes on the East Coast.

The trust, based in Torere, is working with Nichola Harcourts of Waikato University to create new natural products using traditional matauranga Maori.

Dr Harcourts will work closely with the trust to develop an agribusiness based on its old knowledge of plants and marine resources.

She said any profits would go into the iwi - specifically rangatahi training.

The trust intends to use any profits from commercial enterprise to invest in youth training and ecological restoration of tribal lands.
