Waka pavilion launched

9:05 pm on 25 July 2011

Maori Affairs Minister Pita Sharples and Ngati Whatua have hosted a function on the Auckland waterfront to launch Waka Maori.

The pavilion, which will serve as a cultural centre and a welcoming space for visitors during the World Cup, is still under construction.

Dr Sharples says the programme for Monday night's launch celebrated the waka's cargo, the indigenous people who'll represent New Zealand on the world stage.
