Amnesty condemns persecution of Roma

4:55 am on 5 April 2012

Amnesty International has released a report on what it calls the widespread persecution of Roma communities in Europe.

The human rights group says strategies to help social inclusion from individual countries and the European Union are rarely translated into sustainable measures.

Amnesty says this is a result of a lower life expectancy, higher unemployment and more Roma children in care.

The group says not enough is being done to tackle what it describes as "shocking" discrimination.
