The United States has invited Myanmar to observe a military exercise in Thailand in the clearest sign yet of improving relations between the two countries.
Myanmar is yet to respond to the offer to attend the Cobra Gold exercise next year.
The United States stopped all co-operation with the Myanmar military in the 1990s over its human rights record. But sanctions are now being lifted in response to a series of reforms.
Cobra Gold, which began in 1980, is conducted in Chon Buri province, east of Bangkok.
