A suicide bomber in a car killed three people and wounded dozens more near a NATO training base in Afghanistan on Friday.

The International Security Assistance Force said several soldiers were lightly wounded.

The Taliban says the attack on the base in Maidan Shar, 50km from Kabul, was revenge for the execution on Wednesday of four of its fighters.

The executions were approved by President Hamid Karzai.
