Kenya ethnic clashes leave dozens dead

Police in Kenya say at least 39 people have been killed in fresh clashes between rival communities in the Tana Delta region.

Thirteen children and six women are among those killed in the attack by ethnic Pokomo farmers on an Orma village, Kipao, in the early hours of the morning.

Police say the latest attack is revenge for the killing of more than 100 villagers earlier this year, but some say the raids are political with elections looming in March, the BBC reports.

There have been historic tensions between the Pokomo and Orma communities over land and access to water.
