A magnitude 5.7 earthquake occurred in central Chile at 5.30pm on Wednesday, causing buildings to sway in Santiago. There are no reports of damage.
The US Geological Survey said the quake in the Valparaiso region was close to the border with the Mendoza region of Argentina. It was 100km deep.
