In his first speech as Egypt's new leader, President Adly Mansour has vowed to restore security and stability in the face of those he says want to drive the country to chaos.
Two weeks after the ousting of Mohamed Morsi, by the army, Mr Mansour said on Thuirsday his government believes in peace and extends its hands to anyone who also did so.
"We are going through a critical stage and some want us to move towards chaos and we want to move towards stability. Some want a bloody path," he said in a pre-recorded message broadcast on state TV.
"We will fight a battle for security until the end. We will preserve the revolution."
The Muslim Brotherhood has again called for mass rallies on Friday to demand his reinstatement. Members are holding non-stop vigils outside the Rabaa al-Adawiya mosque and at Cairo University.
The BBC reports the organisation has refused to join a new interim cabinet unveiled this week.
"Restoring legitimacy is non-negotiable," Brotherhood spokesman Gehad el-Haddad said on Thursday after meeting EU envoy Bernardino Leon.
Mr Morsi was elected as president a year ago. He was ousted on 3 July by the military. The army said it was fulfilling the demands of the people after mass protests.
