Airport worried about glare from proposed solar farm

Canberra Airport has raised safety concerns about plans to build a solar farm at Majura.

The ABC reports 13 hectare of panels would be directly aligned to the main airport runway.

Airport managing director Stephen Byron fears the design of the farm could reflect large amounts of light at pilots landing planes.

"It's directly under the flight path ... and the pilots will be subject to this glare for quite some time as they come in," Mr Byron said.

The ABC reports airport is also concerned the development could interfere with plans to build a high-speed rail corridor into the ACT.

Mr Byron said the land being used for the solar farm may need to be allocated for the track.
