Fears of deaths in Sydney fire unfounded

4:56 pm on 8 October 2013

The police in Sydney say it is remarkable that nobody died when an explosion and fire ripped through a western Sydney store on Tuesday morning.

Ten people, including eight police officers, were injured after the explosion at the two-storey building.

Two men were rescued from the rubble, and are in a serious but stable condition in hospital.

The police officers suffered burns and smoke inhalation.

Firefighters had believed that two more men were trapped in the rubble but now say that is not the case.
