Internet privacy demanded at UN by Brazil & Germany

Brazil and Germany have presented a resolution to the United Nations General Assembly calling for all countries to guarantee privacy rights on the internet and in other communications.

The move followed disclosures that the United States National Security Agency has intercepted phone calls made by President Dilma Rouseff of Brazil and Chancellor Angela Merkel of Germany as part of widespread data-collection activity.

Germany's United Nations ambassador Peter Wittig said the question of where to draw the line between legitimate security interests and the individual right to privacy must be addressed.
