Anti-government protests are continuing in Thailand despite Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra dissolving the parliament.
She set an election for February next year but the announcement didn't satisfy the demonstrators, who surrounded her offices at Government House.
Ms Yingluck won a huge majority in the last election in 2011.
But the protesters say the government is controlled by her brother, Thaksin Shinawatra who was overthrown by the army in 2006, and have vowed to continue demonstrating.
They want her government to be replaced with an unelected "People's Council",
In the general election in July 2011, Ms Yingluck's Pheu Thai party won 265 seats to the Democrat Party's 159 seats.
Government officials say the elections will likely be held on 2 February.
The BBC reports Pheu Thai draws considerable support from poor and rural areas of Thailand and would be seen as well-placed to win an election.
More than 90 people died in 2010 when central Bangkok was occupied for two months. Mr Thaksin is in self-imposed exile.
