Police on the island of Bali have warned residents tourists to be on guard after a huge python killed a security guard at a luxury beachfront hotel on Thursday.

The four-metre snake is still at large after the incident at the Bali Hyatt, which is currently closed for renovation.

Police said Ambar Arianto Mulyo, 59, grabbed the head of the snake with his right hand and its tail with his left - but the snake still managed to wrap itself around his neck and crush his neck.

Witnesses were too terrified to assist.
