Police in the Philippines have arrested 58 people linked to an online blackmail syndicate.
National police chief Allan Purisima said the suspects persuaded people in foreign countries to expose themselves in front of webcams or send explicit material.
They then threatened to send the footage or photos to relatives unless payment was made. Demands ranged from $US500 to $US2000.
Interpol said on Friday the ring operated almost on an industrial scale. Cyber-blackmail agents were provided with training and offered bonus incentives such as holidays, cash or mobile phones for reaching their financial targets.
The BBC reports cybersex is a growing industry in the Philippines.
