At least seven people have been killed and 41 injured in a fire at a bus terminal in South Korea.

The fire occurred on Monday morning in Goyang city, northwest of Seoul.

A spokesman for the National Emergency Management Agency told Yonhap news agency on Monday that welding work at the site of an underground restaurant in the building started the blaze, which was brought under control in 20 minutes.

Most of the deaths and injuries were the result of smoke inhalation, he said.

Yonhap said the death toll could rise given the number of people severely injured in the blaze.
