Strong quake off Vanuatu

A 6.9 magnitude undersea quake has struck off Vanuatu. No tsunami was generated and there are no immediate reports of damage.

Geoscience Australia said the quake was centred about 230km north of Santo at a depth of 115km, at 5.52am (0452 AEST).

The US Geological Survey measured the quake at 7.0.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre said no tsunami was generated by the quake.

Another quake of 6.6 magnitude was recorded on Monday.
