Israeli and US leaders meet

4:51 pm on 24 March 2010

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says the resumption of Middle East peace talks could be further delayed by Palestinian demands for a freeze on settlement building.

Mr Netanyahu is in Washington where he has met with US President Barack Obama.

It was their first meeting since a row over settlement building in East Jerusalem soured relations between the two allies.

The BBC reports the 90-minute meeting was closed to reporters, which observers say is a sign the dispute may not be entirely resolved.

The Palestinians say Mr Netanyahu's settlement policy is stalling the peace process.
