Scientists in Britain have developed a 15-minute brain scan they hope can be used to detect autism in children, cutting both the time and cost of diagnosing the disorder.
Researchers at the Institute of Psychiatry at King's College, London, say the scan was 90% accurate in detecting the autism spectrum in tests on 20 adults.
The technique assesses structural damage in the brain. It could eventually replace the lengthy and costly tests currently used to diagnose the condition, which also includes Aspergers Syndrome.
