Police in Austria have arrested two Germans found with fake dollar notes and financial certificates worth 1.1 billion euros ($US1.43 billion).

Police say the men tried to get credit of over 100 million euros at a bank in Kleinwalsertal, west Austria, by offering $US200 million in fake notes and certificates as a guarantee.

They were caught on Wednesday when the bank spotted the fake dollar notes. Police later found they were in possession of around 1.1 billion euros in fake notes and certificates.
