A footbridge near the main Commonwealth Games stadium in Delhi has collapsed, injuring at least 23 people.
The ABC reports five of the labourers were seriously injured.
The structure, a steel arch supporting about 50 metres of bridge, fell down just outside the Jawaharlal Nehru stadium on Tuesday, which will host the opening ceremony of the Games on 3 October.
The overhead bridge was to connect the car park with the stadium.
Meanwhile, part of a false ceiling at the weightlifting venue caved in on Wednesday, adding to Games organisers' woes. No one was injured.
Athletes' accommodation 'filthy'
The Commonwealth Games Federation has demanded the Indian government take immediate steps to improve conditions at the athletes' village.
Team delegates described the accommodation as filthy, unhygienic and unfit for human habitation.
But the organisers of the Games, which run from 3 to 14 October, maintain that the facilities will be excellent.
The event has been beset by construction delays, accusations of corruption and an outbreak of dengue fever.
The Games Village - made up of several blocks of high-rise flats for the athletes who are due to begin arriving on Friday - was meant to be the event's showpiece.
New Zealand, Canada, Scotland and Northern Ireland have demanded their teams be put up in hotels if their accommodation is not ready.
Commonwealth Games Federation president Mike Fennell says the Games will go ahead as planned.
Mr Fennell says the current situation is not acceptable and organisers have not acted quickly enough, but the Games should start on time.
