Australian video game classification to get revamp

7:29 am on 6 December 2010

The Australian Federal Government has announced it will support a push for an adult-only classification for video games.

At present, some games are refused any classification and cannot be imported into the country, the ABC reports.

A decision on the matter is expected on Friday, at a committee meeting of Attorneys-General.

A recent survey found strong support for an R18+ classification in Australia, with 80% of people saying they believed that was needed.

The Australian Christian Lobby says introducing an R18+ classification will make it easier for children to access the material, but online freedom advocates say it will protect children from explicit material.
