UK govt looking at case of Florida pastor

The British government is considering stopping a preacher from the United States from entering the country.

Pastor Terry Jones of Florida was widely condemned for threatening to burn the Koran on the anniversary of the September 11 attacks in the United States.

He says he plans to visit Britain to speak at an event hosted by the English Defence League.

British Home Secretary Theresa May said on Sunday she would look into the case.

On his website, Mr Jones said he been invited to a rally held by the EDL in Luton, north of London, in February.

The ABC reports the EDL has staged protests in towns and cities across Britain against Islamic extremism since its formation last year. Many of the demonstrations led to confrontations with opponents and police.

Ms May can ban visitors from Britain on the ground that their presence would not be conducive to the public good, though not simply because of the views they hold.
