Cyclone Zelia on track towards Norfolk Island

9:56 am on 17 January 2011

A cyclone warning was in place for Norfolk Island on Monday as Cyclone Zelia headed towards the Tasman Sea.

The cyclone was on Monday morning about 250km off New Caledonia's main island and was expected to pass very close to Norfolk Island on Tuesday.

In New Caledonia, people were advised to look out for possible risk of flooding if rain falls on already saturated ground following Cyclone Vania, which hit the south of the main island on Friday.

The storm dropped heavy rain on the region before weakening as it headed on a track towards New Zealand.
