The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade is helping a New Zealand man arrested in Dubai after he was reportedly attacked by a former girlfriend when she found him with a new girlfriend.

Gulfnews.com reports that Toby Carroll, formerly of Auckland, called police when the woman found the pair in his apartment and tried to attack them.

It says police arrested the trio, who are now detained in the Bur Dubai police station.

MFAT says it is aware of the case and the New Zealand Consulate-General in Dubai is providing assistance.
