Nelson Mandela is in hospital in Johannesburg for what are described as routine tests.
But the Nelson Mandela Foundation says his health is not in jeopardy and he is in good spirits.
His wife, Graca Machel, and other family members have been visiting him, as has his personal assistant.
Mr Mandela, 92, was admitted to Milpark Hospital after weeks of rumours that his health was rapidly deteriorating.
The Nobel Peace Prize winner who spent 27 years in prison, was last seen in public at the final of the FIFA World Cup in July.
