Entertainer Danny La Rue dies at 81

Leading British entertainer and pioneer female impersonator Danny La Rue has died at the age of 81 after a short illness.

La Rue's career spanned more than 60 years, and he will be best remembered for his take on glamorous women such as Marlene Dietrich and Zsa Zsa Gabor.

He received an OBE in 2002 from the Queen, who admitted to being a long-time fan following his performances at dozens of royal shows.

He suffered a stroke in 2006 and died at his home in Kent, southern Britain, after a short battle with cancer, it was reported on Monday.
