Gabrielle Giffords in Florida for shuttle launch

9:48 pm on 28 April 2011

US congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords has arrived in Florida to watch her husband lead space shuttle Endeavour's final mission, four months after being shot in the head.

Ms Giffords was seriously injured during a shooting rampage that killed six people at a meeting she was hosting in Arizona in January.

CNN reports she was able to climb unaided the stairs of a special NASA jet sent to Houston to take her to the launch site.

Her husband, shuttle commander Mark Kelly said she had been working very hard to be able to make the trip, undertaking six hours of speech, occupational and physical therapy every day.

Endeavour launches for its final flight on Friday.
