9:11 am on 19 May 2011

Security sources in Tunisia say the wife and daughter of Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi crossed over the border into Tunisia several days ago.

They have told the Reuters news agency that Colonel Gaddafi's wife Safia and his daughter Aisha came to Tunisia with a Libyan delegation on 14 May.

It does not appear that the two women were travelling with Shokri Ghanem, an oil official who is believed to have also crossed into Tunisia and is said to have defected.
