Mosque bomb followed by hospital attack

9:56 am on 4 June 2011

At least 16 people have been killed and dozens wounded in a bomb attack aimed at worshippers at a mosque in the northern Iraqi city of Tikrit.

The attack was followed by a suicide bomber in a hospital where the wounded were being treated.

The bomb was hidden inside a fuel canister at the entrance to the mosque, where provincial officials often attend prayers.

The blast occurred at about 12.45pm on Friday.

The BBC reports the attack followed bombings in Ramadi, the capital of Anbar province, that killed at least six people on Thursday.
