Giant crocodile should be freed - animal activists

Animal rights activists have appealed for a giant saltwater crocodile captured in the Philippines to be returned to the wild.

Weighing 1,075kg, the 6.4 metre beast has not eaten since being placed in an enclosure in the southern Philippines last Saturday.

A hunt for the crocodile in the village of Bunawan began in mid-August after a fisherman went missing in July.

The BBC reports the crocodile appears to be on hunger strike. Activists say it is stressed.
