President Ali Abdullah Saleh of Yemen says he's committed to handing over power.
After months of protests against his rule, Mr Saleh returned on Friday from Saudi Arabia where he was treated after he was wounded in an attack on his presidential compound in June.
In his first speech since his return, Mr Saleh called for early elections.
"You who are running after power, let us head together toward the ballot boxes," he said.
The speech was broadcast on the anniversary of a revolution in 1962 that saw Yemen proclaimed a republic.
