Flooding in Venice

8:31 am on 24 December 2009

More than half of the city of Venice is flooded, after water levels rose to their highest point this year.

Officials said strong winds and heavy rains, as well as tide levels, have contributed to high water levels.

The BBC reports waters in some parts of the city reached 143cm above sea level - the 11th highest level since records began.
