State media in Zimbabwe is reporting that an MP has been released on bail after being held in custody for seven days for saying at a political rally that President Robert Mugabe had gay sex with another politician.

Lynette Karenyi, of the Movement for Democratic Change, was released on Thursday after paying $US200 bail.

Her remark was reportedly made at an MDC rally on 9 December.

The Herald newspaper said she denied the allegations.

Mr Mugabe last month called British Prime Minister David Cameron "satanic" for saying that countries that want aid from London must accept gay rights.
