NZ appoints new consul general to New Caledonia

12:59 pm on 22 September 2011

The New Zealand government has appointed Linda Te Puni as consul general to New Caledonia.

Ms Te Puni will also be accredited to French Polynesia and Wallis and Futuna but'll be based in Noumea.

The New Zealand foreign minister, Murray McCully, says the French territories in the Pacific are strengthening their relationships with the Pacific, and Ms Te Puni's broad accreditation will give New Zealand a stronger link.

Ms Te Puni was formerly the high commissioner to the Cook Islands.
