The Kurdish writer and Manus Island refugee Behrouz Boochani says he wants readers of his award-winning book to learn how Australia is systematically torturing people offshore.

Mr Boochani's book, No Friend but the Mountains has won the Victorian prize for literature, Australia's richest book award.

However, the refugee says he can't celebrate the prize while he and about a thousand other refugees are detained on Manus and Nauru.
